About the Medical Innovation Fund
The Medical Innovation Fund aims to accelerate the pace of life-changing medical research in cancer, dementia and infectious diseases, so we can save and improve more lives. We’re embarking on vital, novel research programmes that have the potential to make a difference; but we can’t go at the speed we need to without expanding our teams and investing in new equipment. You can change this.
A fragile world
We live in a world where life is fragile. The pandemic has shown us how quickly things can change, awakening a new sense of urgency in both the public and scientific spheres. We need to accelerate the pace of medical research to help people in need, right now.
At Southampton we’re ready to go, but we need to get the right people and equipment in place to make a real difference.
Supporting people and equipment
We need more excellent PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to drive forward research. Your donation can help fund places for the brightest and best.
Technology changes all the time. The latest equipment enables research to happen faster and more effectively. Without cutting-edge machinery, the pace of research is far slower than it could be. To help people who are suffering most, we must not let our equipment slow us down.
Bringing disciplines together
All of the research that the Medical Innovation Fund supports is interdisciplinary. This means that disciplines like artificial intelligence, chemistry and mathematics are coming together with medicine, to offer different perspectives and solutions to medical challenges. Working this way is the only way forward, and at Southampton we are in an excellent position thanks to our strong heritage and culture of interdisciplinary research.
Cancer
You can help us find new ways to diagnose and treat rare and hard-to-treat cancers.
Dementia
Your donation will help us to find ways to diagnose dementia earlier.
Infectious Diseases
You can support us in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
