Today’s patients can’t wait for tomorrow’s breakthroughs. You can help.
Today’s patients can’t wait for tomorrow’s breakthroughs. You can help.
By investing in the new Institute for Medical Innovation, you can help save and improve lives in Southampton and globally. We just need to get the right people, at the right time, in the right place: the IMI.
The University has already committed £50 million to bring the IMI project to life. Now we urgently need to raise the remaining £50 million through philanthropic support.
Philanthropy plays a vital role in making ambitious projects like this possible. Through the generosity of our community, we can accelerate discovery, support world-leading researchers and create lasting impact for generations to come.
If you are interested in supporting this project, a member of our fundraising team would be delighted to speak with you about how your gift can help place Southampton at the forefront of future breakthroughs.
This transformational £100-million project is already half-funded by the University. But we urgently need your help to raise the remaining £50 million. By supporting the IMI, you’ll be at the heart of innovation, joining a global community of donors, dedicated to tackling the world’s most pervasive and deadly diseases. Your philanthropy has the power to change and save lives, to restore lost sight, lost memories and to help children with life-threatening allergies breathe freely.
We know that without you, there is no IMI. Through the IMI giving groups, to recognise your generous gift, we’ll keep you updated about progress of the build, as well as the big research breakthroughs as they happen. Whether it’s a new drug for a hard-to-treat cancer, a game-changing test for early detection of eye disease, or a device to make life easier for dementia patients, you’ll hear it from us first.
All donors giving over £10,000 will become part of our IMI giving groups, a community of supporters helping to bring the IMI project to life. Throughout the five-year campaign, you will receive additional updates on our fundraising progress, new developments from our frontline research teams, and the impact of your support. We will share these through dedicated communications, events and opportunities to visit and see the work taking shape. At the end of the campaign you’ll receive a special report celebrating the progress you have enabled, and be invited to attend an event celebrating the opening of the building.

Donors giving over £250,000 will also receive an annual invitation to an exclusive event with University leaders and members of the IMI research team.

If you would prefer not to give towards bricks and mortar, you can choose to support the people and tools that drive discovery every day. Your donation can fund pioneering researchers, PhD students at the start of their careers, and the specialist equipment that turns bold ideas into real-world impact. By backing talent and technology, your gift will help to accelerate breakthroughs and improve patient care.
Ready to raise money for life-saving medical research? From bake sales to marathons, there are so many ways you can get involved while raising money for the Institute for Medical Innovation. If you have an idea, we want to support you every step of the way.
So many of us have been affected by cancer or dementia. It is exciting to hear that the University is adopting a multidisciplinary approach to tackling these diseases – it has to be the way forward. This means so much to me, personally, as my mother is suffering with dementia and I see, first-hand, how essential it is to progress medical research.”
