Tackling cancer
Cancer impacts so many of us and treatments can be brutal and sometimes ineffective. Help us to tackle this devastating disease.
One in two of us will get cancer
There are over 100 cancers which are known to impact us as human beings, and being diagnosed with any one of them can be a life-changing moment.
In the UK, cancers lead to over 130,000 deaths every year. Whilst established treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are often effective, for some patients the disease returns. And even when the treatment works it can be very aggressive, leaving patients with long-term pain and suffering as a consequence.
Cancer can strike any of us at any age, from the smallest infant to our most elderly relatives. Imagine a world where cancer therapies are not only more effective but also compassionate.
Together, we can make a difference
For more than 40 years, scientists at the University of Southampton have been at the very forefront of cancer immunology research and have an international reputation for bench-to-bedside results. Our Centre for Cancer Immunology, the UK’s first centre dedicated to cancer immunology, is offering hope for patients when there was none.
At Southampton, we have the skills and expertise to save and improve the lives of people suffering with cancer. But we need your support to do it faster.
