£1m Jersey donation supports Southampton’s pioneering research centre

The University of Southampton’s campaign to build a pioneering new research centre has received significant support from the Channel Islands.
The Institute for Medical Innovation (IMI) will focus on five major disease areas – cancer, dementia, sight loss, infection, and respiratory and allergic conditions – united by the common thread of a misfiring immune system and an urgent need for more research.
The new facility will bring together the greatest minds in medicine, computer science and engineering under one roof to use the latest advances in AI, genomics and tissue analysis to accelerate the development of new treatments and enable earlier diagnosis.
