University of Southampton to head £31million artificial intelligence (AI) consortium

The UK aims to become a world leader in the responsible use of AI with the University of Southampton being chosen to lead the prestigious project.
The project, led by the University of Southampton’s Gopal Ramchurn and called Responsible AI UK, brings together experts to create an international research and innovation institute focusing on the creation of trustworthy and secure AI. With AI’s growth in so many aspects of life, it is vital that artificial intelligence is developed which reflects and caters for all parts of society.
The £31million funding was awarded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and the consortium will include universities, businesses, public and third sectors. The aim is to pioneer responsible AI and fund new research to better understand and build trustworthy systems.
